Hi, my name is Gail2020! is carers allowance deducted from UC?

hi I have just been rewarded dla for my child, I reapplied after it ran out. I receive uc and the element for caring for a disabled child. I’ve been advised to claim carers allowance but my understanding is that it will be deducted from my uc. Is this correct? There’s no point in claiming and messing around with it all if this is the case. Thanks

Hey there @Gail2020 and welcome to the community.
There's some information here on carers allowance and UC that you may find helpful. But from what I know, carers allowance is counted as income, so is deducted from your universal credit. Though you get an extra amount of Universal Credit called a ‘carer element’ if you’re eligible for Carer’s Allowance – even if you don’t apply for Carer’s Allowance.
