The thing to investigate would be a Disabled Facilities Grant

Hi @rectory30, welcome to the community. I hope you'll enjoy your time here 😊
Kimmy87's link to the Disabled Facilities Grants is definitely a good place to start if you're looking to get some downstairs facilities installed.
I'll pop your post into our housing and independent living category in case you have any more questions about the process.

Your first step would be to refer yourself for a needs assessment from your local Authority.

I ended up with the Disabled Facilities Grant via my GP. She referred me to the Community Independence Team (as well as referrals to other health/help agencies) who came out to assess what could be done in the short term to help & she then referred me to the OT for a full needs assessment. All went swimmingly, full wetroom, auto door opener for me to get in & out & telecom wired into the lounge for vizzies to be let in, plus new & better ramps. Then she looked around & added things I didn't know could be done, as I will get the full grant for being on a passport benefit, so said use it all. The wait has been a bit painful though, because of the er…Covid backlog. OT put in her request in May 22, I finally got a call Monday from the guy that will be seeing me through from grant to end of works, he & the OT are coming out next week. I did call in August to see where I was on the list, lovely guy said he was just finishing the September sheet, he would put me down for October, seems he was as good as his word.
Self referral or GP, definitely go for it, good luck & I hope it all goes smoothly for you & a bit quicker than mine will have taken.
