Advance payment / Transitional protection

I posted on here just the other day I have applied for UC legacy I was on income support with SDP, housing benefit and I recieve carers my advance payment is showing as the following that I can apply for
£1156.31
This looks to be my rent element £564.55
Standard allowance £393.45
Carers element £198.31 as that totals to the figure above of £1156.31
someone said the advance is normally the amount before deductions they are going to give you
if they deduct my CA at £354 i will be left with 802.31 that’s way less then what I was getting on legacy benefits for my legacy for income support and housing alone I was getting £1201 so will my TP be around £400? Do they add that on the first statement or would my advance payment be showing as higher if they was adding the TP I’m panicking.

I’m really panicking some people are saying I’m going to be worse off

some are saying I’m going to be near enough 400 worse off a month

You will not be worse off by migrating across. Before TP is calculated they need to know the figures of your previous benefits and they will compare them to your UC maximum entitlement. TP then makes up the difference between the 2.
They won't even know the figures of your Income Support yet because IS need to send them the details.
This isn't always done in time for your first statement so please be aware of that. If this happens they usually recalculate the statement quick quickly (usually within a week)
Don't forget, even though carers allowance is deducted in full, you will still receive the carers allowance as a separate payment, just as you did when claiming IS.
You also have the 2 week run on of IS and HB.

Do they include the carers allowance in with those benefits… as I say My income support was £680 a month and rent 521 someone has said that those combined equal the entitlement which is showing as my advance 1156 plus £45 transitional will Probably be added to make the figure I was on previously on legacy for just income support and housing benefit
But then they will take £354 off of that which will leave 846 a month uc… and then just my carers on top which won’t add up to the £1525 and something I was previously for all 3
So I will be down a lot if that happens as £846 plus carers only comes to £1170 so I be down £355

oh and thank you poppy again for reply and trying to help as much as you can honestly I am grateful I am panicking everyday

Due to the SDP being included in your Income Support your TP will be more than the £45 you think it is. Please try not to panic, you will not be worse off.
May I ask where you're getting your information from?

Some one on a Facebook group she said if the elements of standard and carers nearly equal what my income support with SDP was those two elements come to 600 , income support was 680 she said they would deduct the 354 from that and then I would be down. Obviously on income support I never had deductions from the 680 that would land in my bank every month along side my rent 521 and then i would get carers also weekly. So a total for all 3 of just over 1500 she’s saying I will only get £1156 a month for everything , 846 uc and then my carers. I will try not to worry I haven’t been sleeping, thanks for the reassurance poppy . I get my statement the 11th of November

Also my daughter just said I’ve just received another letter from universal credit I’m currently away so told her to open it , it says they had extended my migration deadline to the 9th of November but obviously I’ve applied already , this wouldn’t effect anything would it?

The only thing I can advise about that Facebook group is to click "leave group." Honestly, they are awful groups to be part of. There's so much incorrect information being told on those groups.
As I advised, you will not be worse off because TP will be included if your UC entitlement is less than your previous benefits.
The deadline being extended is now irrelevant because you've already claimed anyway. It doesn't affect anything because you received your migration notice.
Did they give a reason for the extension? Just curious to know, no other reason I'm asking in case you're wondering.

Ok I will leave that group its been driving me insane to be honest , because as I say standard allowance and carers element is near enough equal to my income support but they have been saying the 354 would come off that so if they don’t top me up I will be down.
If I have any problems with my first statement is it ok to ask you what would be best to put on my journal?
I hope you know that people like you are amazing and it’s nice to know there is people like you out there willing to help and stuff. So thank you again. As for the extension they didn’t give a reason my daughter said it was dated the 9th of October and my migration date on my other letter was the 12th so I’m guessing it’s because I was getting so near to the date.

I think that's a great idea to leave that group. I remember joining a FB group years ago and left due to the shocking advice many members were giving people. It drove me insane.
Yes, please just ask if there's any issues with your first statement but please remember that very often your first statement isn't correct and it needs to be recalculated.
Thank you also for such lovely words, they are really appreciated! 😊

Hi Poppy I spoke to you on this thread a little way back. I have just got my first statement and it seems I am getting more then I thought I would my transitional protection is higher, this worries me that they have calculated the award wrong and will overpay me.

Could you post a breakdown of your statement?
If you use a photo please black out any personal information.

I was on income support previously with SDP and housing benefit , I didn’t want to go down the route of providing for notes so have had work commitments turnt off for being a carer I’ve worked out I’m getting like around 100 or so more

Have you calculated your TP on a 4x weekly benefit amount?
UC money is monthly, so it would be 4.3 weeks worth of legacy benefits.

I used to get 357 income support 4 weekly legacy. I did message before about my transitional and someone replied saying the tp has been calculated and added to statement, do they usually make mistakes?
0 -
£357 every 4 weeks? Income Support was paid fortnightly. I would say that the TP is correct because your IS included the SDP plus the disability premium. Depending on what disability benefit award you had, it may have also included the Enhanced disability Premium.
It's very highly unlikely that your TP has been calculated incorrectly. There's more chance of it being less than it should be, than more than it should be.

Your income support included the SDP, so would have been more than £357 4 weekly.

oh sorry that meant to say £357 fortnightly . Ok thank you all I really appreciate it
