Carers Allowance
Good evening I was wondering if I could get a little advice please I have recently come to the realisation that I am need of a full time carer as my mobility has decreased even further I would like to know if or how much of my Universal Credit I would lose if a family member took over that role? Thank you so much for reading my post.

Another person claiming carers allowance or carers element of UC for looking after you will not affect your UC. Unless you're claiming UC with a partner and it's your partner that's caring for you.

You're welcome. Then it will not affect your UC. You must also be claiming a qualifying disability benefit yourself such as PIP daily living or DLA mid/high rate care for him to claim carers allowance or carers element of UC for looking after you.

Hey @Welshred78, I'm glad you have someone so close to you who is able to help care for you. It can be difficult, at least it is for me, to recognise and admit when we need more help and care. I hope Poppy's answer has helped ease any worries about this. Do let us know if you have any questions and if you would like to read a little more about carers allowance we have an advice section on it here: Carer's Allowance | Disability charity Scope UK

Hello I'm back again (sorry!) I have a question I hope you can help me with if possible. My brother who is willing to become my carer was up until recently a full time carer for my Dad who unfortunately recently passed away would it be better for him to apply to become my carer now or wait until he gets a letter from the DWP saying when his carers allowance will come to and end? Thank you so much for all the help that you have given me in the past and now.
