hi there welcome to the forum Poppy will correct me if I'm wrong but you haven't been waiting that long because of the backlog of people from COVID-19, the minimum people have been waiting is 6 months and the longest people have been waiting is 2 years.

Right now we have got the boring bit out of the way it I can do my proper welcome with you . I would recommend visiting the coffee lounge for a general chat and the games den for some fun and games

You asked if you still get paid while you are waiting but then said it's the first time you've applied for PIP. You don't receive any money until a decision is made. If awarded then any money that's owed will be paid first and then 4 weeks later your first 4 weekly payment will be paid.

Once the assessment report is returned a decision can take up to 12 weeks, rather than the 8 weeks you were advised. Some have decisions much quicker and others longer.

2 years for a first time PIP claim is rather excessive, even reviews aren't taking that long. From applying to having a decision it's up to about 6 months.

IF the worst happens and there's a refusal then of course the waiting time for each step adds to the timescale.

Hi @samanthabarnard, welcome to the community. I can see the lovely Poppy has already answered your question but I just wanted to pop in to say hello and welcome 😊

Hope you're not waiting too long to hear back about your PIP. If you do find you're disappointed with their decision, it's not the end. You can send in an appeal to have your claim looked at again. There's some information about that on the Scope website:

Appealing a benefits decision | Disability charity Scope UK

But hopefully it won't come to that. Fingers crossed you get the result you're hoping for! Keep us updated with how you get on 😊
