PENSIONER PREMIUM

My Husband is shortly a Pensioner and I get Contribution Based ESA
Will I get a Pensioner Premium and how do we apply for it?
Thanks

It depends on which ESA you're claiming. Is it the old contributions based or New style ESA? The Pensioners Premium can only be added to the old contributions based ESA. If you're not sure, it may help if you can tell me when you claimed the ESA.

You will need to ring ESA and ask to be assessed for the Income Related top up. They will send you the ESA3 form to fill in and return. You will need to put your details and your partners details on the form.
Your partners state pension and any other private pensions they maybe receiving will be deducted in full. The Pensioners Premium will be included in the calculation.
Whether there’s any entitlement to the Income Related top ups will depend on how much your partners state pension and other pensions (if claiming them) are.
Your contributions based ESA will continue as normal, even if there’s no entitlement to the top up.
