Cheap Christmas Veg

Hi everyone,

In case any of you have missed this, Aldi and Sainsburys are planning to sell Christmas veg at 15p each (I think it'll be 15p per bag). This will be from the 19th to 24th December. It's not a lot but would be a good idea to stock up at these times. It should include things like spuds, brussels, broccoli, parsnips etc, ie typical veg you'd have for Christmas lunch.

We've been told Morrisons will be doing something similar, but advised you'll need to get a store card to qualify (its called a Morrisons More card which you can apply for online). There aren't any charges with the store card, just lots of discounted stuff in the shop. They use it primarily to check who's buying what in their stores (rather than Big Brother checking up on your spending habits…). No doubt Tesco will be thinking of following suit.

Brilliant that Sainsbury's are doing Christmas because it was the first one to introduce the Nectar Card.

A bit of market research regarding this folks:

In our neck of the woods, Aldi has cut the price of bags of veg down to 8p now. And have to say it's pretty good quality. You can get 2kg bags of spuds, 500g bags of carrots, 500g brussels, and 1kg bags of parsnips, as well as brocolli + fresh cabbages (red + green).

Morrisons not so good. They only appear to be doing 15p bags of carrots, brussels + turnips. The sprouts bought yesterday looked as though they were close to their sell-by-date (stalks going brown), although the carrots were better. Morrisons response so far looks rather cynical, more to get customers in than provide genuine bargains. They've got until Xmas Eve to improve, so we'll see. But for now, our money is on Aldi. Stock up while you can folks
