Yes you need to tell them. If your son’s DLA award is high rate care you will be entitled to the higher disabled child element. If it’s any other award then it will be the lower disabled child element.
You will need to wait for a decision maker to make the decision on when to award it from but it should be from the assessment period in which the DLA was awarded from. It may take several weeks for a decision to be made and to pay anything that’s owed. Money owed will be paid separately to your usual monthly money.

Who told you that? It’s not correct. Yes, you should always report changes like this but you will still be entitled to the disabled child element.

the lady on uc said I won’t be able to claim back 2years but I did not have a clue up until now now there on about I carnt claim carers element cos I’m not claiming caters I said I never asked for carers element I want to claim the child disability element

The person that told you that isn’t a benefits advisor so you should rely on the advice they give.
For carers element you do not need to claim carers allowance. If your UC includes the LCWRA element for yourself then you won’t be able to claim carers element at the same time.
If you’re not claiming LCWRA element then yes you can claim carers element.

No carers element is separate to child disability element.
If they don't backdate the CDE to when he was awarded DLA, you can ask for a Mandatory Reconsideration of that decision.

As I advised, it will be paid from the assessment period in which the DLA was awarded from. You need to wait for a decision maker to make that decision.
