PIP Change of Circumstance

Hi, I got awarded PIP not long ago (standard DL) for Mixed Anxiety and Depressive Disorder. I have now recently been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. Since this diagnosis, I understand a bit more about myself. To my knowledge, I have to tell PIP about changes. One of these changes is that I started medication and I need prompting and assistance to take this. This would take me up to enhanced DL if given. I also feel that during my previous assessment, I wasn't taken too seriously. My hope is just for a reassessment really. Would this be likely?

Also, how do I actually go about reporting a change. I know I can call or write (I'd rather call) but like how does it work? Do I tell them over the phone, get a new PIP2 form to fill out?

There's always some risk to your current award when reporting changes.You will need to ring PIP to report changes. You will be send more forms to fill in and return and another assessment is most likely. Once the decision is made your award could either remain the same, be increased or stopped completely.

Needing prompting/assistance to take medication is 1 point. Taking medication is not classed as therapy. How many points did you score for your current award?

Hi I have been to the doctor and he has suggested I might have bipolar,but didn’t explain how he would find out if I have it ,so I am a little bit in the dark,have yourself or other people have any idea what happens next

Oh okay thank you. I scored 11 points on my current award. That's all DL, no mobility. I believe it's 12 points or over for enhanced if I'm right?

Hey Denniss62, I was in a similar boat. Your GP should refer you to a local mental health team in your area to have a psychiatric assessment for the diagnosis. Make an appointment with your GP and ask if you've been referred and if not, to refer you. In preparation for the psychiatric appointment, I wrote down everything that was going on, my actions and behaviours, mood changes and how my behaviour was affected by that. Got the psychiatrist to read through out to start with as I'm not great at conversations and went on from there.

Yes, it's at least 12 points. Before reporting changes you need to be 100% certain. You would also need to make sure you fill out the form with as much relevant information as possible and treat it as a new claim.

If you've only recently started taking medication then you also need to have had the difficulties for at least 3 months and expect it to last at least a further 9 months.

Ahh righttt. That makes sense. Yes it is only recent so I'd have to declare the change in around April? I'm still waiting for medical evidence to come through so like I'm not in any rush to do it

hi i have been getting pip for many yrs now as i have bipolar and bad anxiety, i was diagnosed last year with copd too so i rang pip up to report this and ive just filled out a new review form but i only told them on it about my copd? as the person on phone from pip said i didnt have to mention my bipolar ect as its just for the change ie copd, im now really worried though as could i end up losing my pip for bipolar if dont get awarded any points for copd?

The person that gave you that advice was incorrect. When filling out any form you need to tell them about all of your conditions and how they affect you, not just one of them. If you don't tell them how can they assess you correctly?

It's never too late to send them more information in a letter so I'd advise you to do that. Please make sure that you put your name and NI number on everything you send.

hi poppy, i had my assesment over the phone nearly 3 weeks ago, i got a text few days ago saying a decision as been made and i should recieve a letter within 2 weeks telling me what happened, now i get £549 every 4 weeks at the moment, but when i rang pip up couple of days ago i didnt speak to anyone but answered a few questions then it said we will now tell you your next pip payment amount and due date, and it said next payment is for £665.40 on the day im due to get it as usual, i cant understand why it is for more than usually do you think its been upped or just something their may owe me? my stress levels are totally through the roof at the moment….with it all and then everything you read or see on news now in regards to cuts on pips ect, hope maybe you can help :)

I haven't told them about my copd, or my joint hypermobility syndrome, diagnosed in 23.

I got my review end of 22, which is for a few years yet because I am worried that they turn it down. Although now I'm scared about the point scoreing changing.

Poppy is taking a break from Scope at the moment.

The PIP automated line isn't always correct and can't be relied upon.

That number doesn't add up to a full 4 weeks of increased PIP payments. But it might be that they've increased it part way, so it's extra money for one or two weeks. Which rates were you previously getting?

Thank you for confirming. So the only increase could be from Standard to Enhanced Mobility. That would be an extra £47.05 per week. As far as I know, PIP is only ever calculated in full weeks, not individual days, so I can't understand how they've come up with that figure either. Hopefully you will receive a letter soon to explain it.

hi i had my review 28th march uploaded b/statements and pic of me holding passport but yesterday got message in journal asking me to send another pic of my passport showing both pages which i did in 1st place dont understand why to do it again

That sounds a bit annoying but probably not worth the hassle of asking them to explain. I would just upload another photo if you can do that easily enough.
