Universal Credit
You’ll usually get Cold Weather Payments if you get Universal Credit and:
- you are not employed or ‘gainfully self-employed’
- your partner is not employed or ‘gainfully self-employed’ (if you have a partner)
You’re likely to be considered ‘gainfully self-employed’ if being self-employed is your main job, you work regularly and expect to make a profit.
One of the following must also apply:
- you or your partner have a health condition or disability and have limited capability for work (with or without work-related activity)
- you have a child under 5 living with you
You’ll also be eligible if you have a disabled child amount in your claim. It does not matter whether you or your partner are employed, self-employed or not working.

Has one been triggered in your area?
They are paid automatically, a notification should be added to your Journal when one has been triggered for your area, then the payment follows within a couple of weeks.

ununiversal credit can't tell me any different could be any time surely if it comes to nearly March and not received it by then what happens then

You may or may not be entitled to it take a look at my last post above.

These £25 payments are only paid when a period of very cold weather happens
You’ll get a payment if the average temperature in your area is recorded as, or forecast to be, zero degrees celsius or below over 7 consecutive days.
You’ll get £25 for each 7 day period of very cold weather between 1 November 2024 and 31 March 2025.
If you use the link I gave, it will show if any are due in your area.
They are weather dependant so some years none are triggered at all for most people. In all the years I've been claiming various means tested benefits (18 years) only a few CWP's have been triggered in my area.

I"m also entitled to a CWP if one is triggered in my area.. there hasn't been one triggered this winter yet so I haven't received any payments.

I had a CWP today for last week.

They may be just not to all UC claimants.

Sorry, should have said CWP's are paid automatically to all UC claimants who are eligible, details of which were posted earlier in the thread 😊

No, you do not need to apply for it if you're entitled to the payment. If one is triggered in your area you'll automatically receive it. My daughter claims UC and last year a few CWP were triggered. None so far this year.

Not all UC claimants qualify for a CWP, it depends on circumstances. If you qualify it's automatically paid. The same as it was for legacy benefits such as ESA. No one has to "claim" a CWP.

Yes, that makes sense.
I must have seen an AI generated *check to see if you qualify* line and clicked 🙄

Did you have a message on your journal to tell you? It can take a while for the money to go into your bank.
