Understanding UC Statement

Just when I think I've got my head around my UC migration I get a journal message titled-other benefits affecting your UC -so I go and locate my very first statement only to find they've deducted my housing costs-and that I'm continuing to claim Esa deduction -my assesment period is 26th December to 25th January-can anyone please tell me if this is something I'm gonna have to spend an hour on the phone tomorrow-or if this will correct itself in next month's statement

What do you mean they've deducted housing costs? Are they paying your landlord directly?

If part of your ESA was contributions based this will continue as normal at a rate of £276.40/fortnight. This will be deducted in full from your UC at a rate of £598.86/month. It seems more than you receive but it's not, it's because there's 4.3 weeks in a month and not 4 weeks. To work out the monthly deduction you times the weekly amount by 52 and then divide by 12.

I see that you requested your rent to be paid straight to your landlord so yes, your monthly UC payment will be less because your rent is paid to your LL. You will not see any of that money.

HI poppy yes it's going to my landlord-so will that show up as a deduction in my statement every month ?- and yes £598.887 has been deducted from my other benefits affecting my UC --so Confused -HELP

Yes, it will show as a deduction due to them paying it directly. Have you been continuing to receive your ESA payments at a reduced rate of £276.40/fortnight?

I would have also expected you to have received a letter from ESA telling you that your contributions based ESA is reverting to New Style ESA. Did you receive anything like that?

I also see that your ESA used to include the SDP. On your UC statement does it show an amount for Transitional Protection?

Yes your Housing Element will show as a deduction every month.

As Poppy explained, What's happened to your ESA, means before you were was both Contributions Based & Income Related. Many don't know this until they migrate.

When someone is on both CB & IR ESA, upon migration to UC the IR ESA ends and is replaced by UC, the CB ESA converts automatically into New Style ESA.

NS ESA will be paid separately from UC, fortnightly at a rate of £276.40.

This will be deducted in full (598.86) from each UC payment.

As UC is a monthly benefit and ESA weekly, the numbers may look wrong- but are correct because there are 4.3 weeks in a month.

Yes I had a letter telling me that my Contribution ESA will change to new style Esa from the 9th January -I had a payment of ESA on the 2nd JAN-£481.10 then again on the 16th Jan -£364.14 -so are you saying ill,still receive ESA fortnightly payments as well as my reduced UC ?

Yes going forward you will receive ESA fortnightly and your UC monthly. ESA is deducted in full from your UC as we advised.

What about Transitional Protection, does that show on the statement?

On your statement it should include standard allowance, LCWRA element, housing element and Transitional Protection.

Underneath that it will show any deductions, such as the ESA deduction, if you had an advance payment it will show the amount to pay that back. It will also tell you that they will pay your landlord X amount for your rent.

Yes that's it -everything you've said but I've had no advance payment -so will my ESA payment go in as usual on the Thursday 30th of this month and then fortnightly Thursdays as usual -and then a monthly reduced UC payment the first of every month ?

Yes your next ESA payment will be 30th Jan and it will be for £276.40. Going forward it will be every fortnight as usual. UC will then be on 1st of the month, unless payment date falls on a weekend or bank holiday and then it will be paid on the last working day before.

With the SDP and EDP included in your ESA then that amount sounds correct to me. Please be aware that when other elements increase the TP will decrease by the same amount. This means that when benefits increase from April this year your total benefits entitlement will remain the same as it is now.

Your ESA will increase and the deduction for the ESA in your UC will also increase.

My payment date is the 2nd, do be aware in your April statement you won't see the UC increase.

This is because for UC it has to be a whole assessment period at the new rate, so it won't happen in April when the amount goes up.

It will be on your May statement, paid June 1st.

You'll still get 12 payments at the higher rate, but like me you'll have to wait a bit longer for it to start 😊

My statement read like this-due Standard housing LCWRA TP-£233-after deductions for other benefits-NS ESA and housing and £13 for savings I have a monthly UC payment for £431- other than increases in NS ESA and decreases in UC will this UC payment stay roughly the same?

Yes, it will remain roughly the same, until benefits increase and then it will be slightly less due to the increase in your ESA from April.

I'm just wondering as well will any changes with my NS ESA and PIP ill still be notified with letters through the post as was before ?

Yes you will still receive letters from them as normal. PIP is a separate payment and doesn't affect your UC or ESA in a bad way. For UC letters will be uploaded onto your journal, you will not receive letters in the post.

Yes thanks Poppy you've been a great help -it certainly helps to have the paperwork for ESA and PIP so you can understand the calculations of the payments-and as you said everything UC is done purely through my online journal -I think that's enough thinking for a Sunday morning-nothing more to do but listen to the awful wind and rain outside -thanks again
