UC PHONE REVIEW

Hi,
We have a phone review with DWP tomorrow that Im so anxious about. Have provided bank statements and ID for both of us.
I claim PIP, LCWRA and my Husband LCWRA can we both have £16,000 between us or £6,000? Thanks

The amount you can have between you is:
Under £6k: no deduction from UC
£6-16K: £4.35 deducted for every £250 over £6k
Over £16k: no entitlement to UC (unless you migrated from Tax Credits with over £16k capital, a one year exemption applies)

Thanks for your reply Kimmy87. I thought because I claim PIP the UC payments will not be effected?

UC is a means tested benefit, also getting PIP doesn't over rule the limits.

No, that’s not correct. PIP isn’t means tested so doesn’t affect your UC. If there’s any money left from your payments at the end of the following. month after you receive them it will be counted as capital.(savings) Same rules apply for all of your money, unless it’s in a pension pot.
If you received a lump sum from benefits entitlement this is disregarded for 1 year from the date you receive it. After that time it’s counted as capital.

So what will happen if we both have over 6k between us?

The capital rules are as kimmy advised above. If your total capital is more than £6,000 there’s a deduction of £4.35/month for every £250 or part thereof over that amount. Once your capital reached £6001 in total you should have reported those changes.

There will be a deduction from your UC award, at a rate of £4.35 for every £250 over £6k that you have.
If your statements show over 6k between you, they might request more statements dated further back to see when you went over.

At the bottom of each UC statement it gives information about capital and it says the following.
The first £6,000 of your money, savings and investments does not affect your payment. If you have over £6,000 up to £16,000, every £250 reduces your Universal Credit by £4.35. For any remaining amount that is not a complete £250, a further £4.35 is also deducted.
