Hi, my name is Cherylle1961! Does anyone know what is happening with severe disability allowance?

Hiya Iv just been reading about the discussion on the severe disability allowance,My husband turned 66 nearly 3 years ago, we were both receiving the severe disability allowance,then when we went to universal credit we lost it,but got transitional benefit,this is reduced every we Tim there is a increase on our benefit,and is no were near the amount we were getting.Does anyone know what is happening at the moment about it.

It is correct that when you claimed UC you were given Transitional Protection, this is added so at the time of transfer you aren't worse off.
It reducing when you get an increase/new element is also correct.
It's the way UC is designed, I was awarded PIP last year under the legacy system I'd have gotten SDP, under UC I get nothing.
It's very unfair that no disability premiums are payable on UC, that is the way the system has been designed I'm afraid.
Nothing is happening about TP reducing, I am not aware that aspect has been challenged in the courts.

Not sure what you mean what’s happening regarding this? It’s correct that Transitional Protection erodes over time, so when other elements increase or you become entitled to other benefits, it decreases, until eventually it erodes completely. The disability premiums are not payable when claiming UC.
As a mixed aged couple, UC will never be favourable.
