Hi, my name is Innisfree1! Do DVLA automatically back date 50% vehicle tax?

I am wondering if DVLA automatically back date 50% vehicle tax for all eligible years when you first apply? I have had my award for several years and due to circumstances I have never applied for the reduction before.

Many Thanks

Hey there @Innisfree1 and welcome to the community.

I believe it can be backdated to the start of your PIP award as long as you're receiving standard rate mobility?

I'm not sure on this one. I have seen people get 2 years backdated, but I don't know if there's a limit at all. Please do let us know whether you get the backdate automatically, and if there's a time limit, as it will help others in future.

I will let you know the outcome, its tricky with PIP eligibility statements as my award was extended during covid, I guess DVLA will be getting a whole stack of paperwork from me, it's worth a try though.
