Hi, my name is kathtodd46! my son via me as his appointee just had the work capability assessment...

Hi my son via me as his appointee just had the work capability assessment on the phone. He has autism and severe mental health issues. I had prepared for the assessment but it didn’t go the way I thought. I am afraid he failed because I struggled with my words (I have ME/fibro and anxiety issues) I really am very worried 😟 can anyone help?

Unfortunately all you can do is wait for the outcome.
Timescales are anything up to 12 weeks for a decision. Some people hear within days, others wait weeks or months.
If you are unhappy with the decision, you can ask for them to look at the decision again (Mandatory Reconsideration) then if unchanged appeal to an independent appeal tribunal.
Are you familiar with the descriptors?

thank you. It was the fact I prepared myself with what I thought we would be asked and she randomly asked questions. I ended up feeling overwhelmed

Hi @kathtodd46 welcome to the community. I'm sure you did the best you could. Please don't be too hard on yourself. 💛 I hope you get the outcome you want.

thank you
I actually have my PIP review on Thursday. You couldn’t plan this week if you tried. But it’s all really overwhelming 😢

Oh bless you, I do feel for you @kathtodd46 that is a lot all at once! Hopefully once you've had your review you know you've done the initial difficult bit for now. Hopefully that'll help ease the worry a little. Appreciate it's a waiting game then, which doesn't help.
Please make sure after this week, you and your son do something nice together, even if just something little that you both enjoy to take your mind off it. ☺️ You've got this!
