Housing question...

We have been lucky enough to be able sign a new rental contract the other side of the country to us, in secure housing. ( Which we are very grateful for)We are still living at the current private rental address and paying all bills as normal, as this has been sprung on us. (We are on legacy benefits/ PIP/DLA)  Literally viewed 2 weeks ago signed that day. We have to pack up the house and move quickly. We shall be handing in our notice as soon as possible, as we can not wait to move.( I will have to do pack the house mostly alone as my partner is ill)

However, my partner has terminal cancer and has weekly chemotherapy sessions , which is fine as the new area does that at the local Hospital.  However when we got back from the 5 hour journey he had to be admitted to hospital a few days after, as an emergency as his Heart Failure worsened and he had to be admitted for 4 days to get fluid off his body. ...5kg of water. This has put has slightly behind as he will not be able to do much for 6 to 8 weeks so the consultant said.

What I would like to know basically, is it ok if we continue living in the private rented until we are ready to move. Sadly I can not put a timescale on this but hoping within the next few months like 3 or 4 months. ......and for us to pay for the secure housing out of our money as well/and all the other bills which go with that. But living in the current private rented . We will not be technically livingin the new place , just me popping back at least every 3 weeks to pick up mail and check on the house etc

I just want to know if there are any rules or regulations etc, as I do not want to jeopardise this at all for us. And it is special circumstances. We could not have predicted the Heart Failure declining so quickly and have to build his health up again, just to be able to walk a little

Thanks

You won't be doing anything wrong. It's normal to be paying two sets of rent and other bills when you are in the process of moving.

Thanks a lot. Just that we are on HB for the current property and we are paying the rent on the social housing out if our money. The HA are aware that we couldn't move in straightaway as it was so sudden and we live 5 hours away from the property by train. They said as long as we pay the rent they were happy. I just wanted to make sure everything was ok technically, or if there were any rules I would need to adhere to. Thanks for your help
