Alcoholic Neuropathy

Hi.
For approx. 9 months I’ve had symptoms of Peripheral Neuropathy.
My feet feel numb, but also painful. It feels like I’m walking on glass, but also with bubble=wrap on my feet.
When I’m barefoot, it feels like I’m wearing boots!
I haven’t been officially diagnosed, but as my sister is diabetic, and also has the same symptoms, and has been tested, I’m assuming I have the same as her.
I am now sober, and have been for 6 weeks.
I’m not expecting instant results, but was hoping in time my feet/lower legs will go back to how they were.
Does anyone here have any experience of what I’m going through at all, and could possibly offer advice?
My sister hasn’t been given any medication to ease the pain, so I see no point in visiting the doctor if there’s nothing they can do for me.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Hi Michael.
Blood tests have already been done. I take B12 vitamins every day, bought over the counter, along with B1 (Thiamine) which were prescribed by my doctor in December.

Hey @TheThinker and welcome to the community.
I'm sorry to see no one has been able to offer any more advice, but congratulations on the six weeks sober, that's amazing!
I'd strongly suggest speaking to your GP about this. Even if it is the same condition as your sister, you both have different backgrounds and needs, so the GP will be treating you as individuals, so it's worth checking with them asap.1 -
Thanks for your reply Albus_Scope.
I am booked in for bloods again, and am also supplying them with a toenail clipping.

I would say that the fact that your sister is experiencing exactly the same symptoms as you are is going to be something that needs investigating very carefully.
Do you live in the same property etc ?
You are assuming that it is linked to alcohol - and whilst Alcohol will not be helping the issue - the chances of it being the cause are going to be extremely slight - unless your sister drinks the same as yourself….

Thank you for the reply Wibbles.
I think I have Alcoholic Neuropathy, and my sister Diabetic Neuropathy.
They are the same condition, caused by different things. We do live together, although I'm not sure that matters?
They've done a blood test, to see if I'm suitable for medication if I do have a fungal nail infection. Once they decide about my possible infection, they will look at possible Neuropathy.
