Child carers

hiya I just wondered if anyone can help, I used to claim carers for my daughter but it then got deducted from my UC even though I have disabled child element the actual carers is paid weekly then monthly taken out of my UC. What Is the point in claiming something that then gets taken back at the end of the month. I am on sick benefit myself due to mental and physical health issues. It seems pointless to re-apply yet need to claim carers to be eligible for other things? Can anyone clarify or help? Thanks in advance

Hi,
Carers Allowance is treated as income. So that does get deducted from UC.
Most people will then get the Carers Element on UC instead. But as you already have LCWRA yourself, you can't get the Carers Element as well. (LCWRA pays a lot more each month).
In your case, there probably isn't really any point applying for Carers Allowance again. Which other things do you think it would make you eligible for?

Carers Allowance and UC are both income replacement benefits. Under the welfare system a person isn't entitled to two incomes.
