I first was signed not fit to work on 02/08/24 I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis of my right hip in 09/24 . In 03/25 I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my right knee and left ankle I have not been able to walk any further than about 20 metres on crutches and my right knee gives way. I was assessed by phone on 07/05/25 by serco I informed them I was having my full hip replacement operation on 08/05/25 on 23/05/25 DWP informed me that they assessed me LCW since my hip operation I have not been able to leave my flat . They say they expect me to go to the job centre every 2 weeks and to any courses they put me on. How long will an appeal take and are they ever successful. Kind regards Mark

Hi @Stephen111, if you're unable to get to the job centre due to your condition, they should be able to offer you an alternative way of keeping up with your commitments, or you may be able to supply a fit note from your doctor while your appeal goes through.

Have you managed to speak to your work coach since the decision was made? You could try putting a message on your journal to see if they can make some different arrangements for you.

The first stage would be mandatory reconsideration. There's some information about it on the Citizen's Advice website that you might find useful:

Universal Credit mandatory reconsideration - Citizens Advice

Success and timings can vary from case to case but some people do find they are offered a more positive result after appealing.

Best of luck if you do try to appeal ☺️

Thanks for replying . A friend has recommended Luton Irish Forum to assist me in mandatory reconsideration letter and appeal. I have contacted them and they have said they will assist me. Has anyone ever used the before ?
