Changing bank details but 5 weeks from UC migration.

Hello,

its blooming typical, the bank I have been with since a child closed the local branch

"use the app" the problem is owing to the vision loss the app crashes with the font put on max, They replaced the branch with a person in the local library and the only advice she can give is travel 27 miles to the nearest branch, the result being I started to open a new account and of course they wanted ID, So applied for a passport and weeks went there, I saw the time ticking down for the migration over from ESA to UC but thankfully its all sorted on the passport/Bank side and this is the reason for the post.

My brother was migrated and he's been put on UC but also new style ESA even though he's never been able to work and is single, the only connection we live together and have joint tenancy. they did up his HB to the full amount

I had been planning just to add the new bank details once the claim starts but then

If they do the same to me and put me on the new style ESA would that remain with the current ESA details ? I wont lie I am terrified of anything like this but the bank situation is so serious now I cannot carry on, the app crashes non stop when a payment needs to be authorised its making it near impossible to do anything with it.

I know I will have to let the PIP place know also.

Sorry for rambling I just wonder does anyone know once the migration process takes place its all done from a new dept including the new style ESA or do remnants of the old claim remain? the former bank account will remain open until its all sorted.

thank you,

Of that doesn't sound like a fun situation @Vulcress ! I'd say if in doubt, let them know that you've opened a new bank account. You'd need to do this anyway if you were swapping benefits anyway. Better to be safe than sorry. 😊

Though I'm really hoping they can make the banking app a bit more disability friendly for you soon.

    Hi,

New Style ESA is handled separately from UC. They will use the old bank details as far as I'm aware.

If you can call ESA now, they should be able to tell you whether you currently get Contributions Based ESA with an Income Related top up.

It is only the claimants who have both types of legacy ESA that get New Style ESA when they migrate to UC.

If your current ESA is all Income Related, then you will not get New Style ESA.

Again thank you so much for these replies

yes 300 years ago I was put on SDA when I turned 16. I remained on that till the SDA/ESA migration and it was income related totally, The same with my brother as the condition triggered around the same time.

He never was told why the new style ESA was there its paid differently to the UC amount

thank you so much really mean it
