Hello, I am a carer for my daughter who is autistic and has a learning disability as well. She does not have the mental capacity to handle medical or financial issues and is fully dependent on me for her needs. She is in receipt of ESA (support group) and PIP. All her benefits are paid into my account which I manage on her behalf for treatments related to her health. Today I have received a letter stating that she has to clain UC by the 5th of October as her ESA will be stopped.

I have a few questions, i hope that someone kind enough will answer them for me.

-Her benefits, as mentioned above, go straight into my account (this is a joint account with my son). I chose to have a joint account many years ago so that should anything happen to me, my son has the authority to manage her benefits. I work part time and my salary also goes to the same account. My questions are:

-Do I have to submit bank statements ?

-Does she need a bank account of her own? I would rather that the UC goes into my account as she cannot manage money or finances.

-Is this UC means tested ?

-Her GP is well aware of her disability and health issues, will I need some sort of a letter from them to submit it to the UC department.

Please, any assistance rendered would be greatly appreciated.
