Health assessment
Hi all, I’m Janie.
I’m new here so please be gentle!
I have PIP., I’ve been disabled for years with COPD and other health conditions.
I have this assessment coming up by phone with Serco, I’m out of my mind with worry, can anyone offer any advice please?
It would be very much appreciated.

Hi @Janie2025, welcome to the community. It's a nerve-wracking process sometimes, I hope you're coping okay!
Is this your first assessment for PIP?
When they ring you, they'll usually ask some questions about your conditions. They might ask you about different activities you do or how your conditions affect you day to day. Sometimes the questions might not feel very relevant but it all helps them decide how to award your PIP claim.
They might also only focus on one part of your conditions. That doesn't mean they're discounting anything else you live with, it just means they're looking for more information on that part and may already have what they need on another part. On the other hand, they might ask about everything! It's quite personal and can vary a lot from case to case.
Just remember to take some deep breaths and try to answer with as much detail as you can. If you can have some notes with you that can really help. It's often good to have some examples of how your disabilities affect you so that if your mind goes blank you've got something to remind you.
Is there anyone who could be with you during the phone call to offer some support? Sometimes it can help just having someone there in the room with you, even if they don't say anything.
I'm sure our members will have some more tips. Hope it goes well for you ☺️

Thank you so much, you’re very kind @Rosie_Scope 😊
I will do all of that, I’ll be extremely anxious on the day so I’m going to ask them if I can record the call, I’ve got all of my letters from my consultant, fingers crossed it goes well. 🤞🏻
My husband will be here with me on the day hopefully, so I shouldn’t be alone.
