Universal credit and direct payments for care
Hi everyone,
I am asking for advice. A friend of mine has had his claim for UC closed because they are counting his direct payments for his care as a income and an asset. Direct payments are not assists or income as the money is not legally his.
We have done a mandatory reconsideration, it's now been 8 weeks and he's got no money and is in arrears with is rent. Is there anything we can do to hurry up the reconsideration? Also have complained to the DWP but they haven't replied. Any help or advice would be appreciated thank you.

Contacting his MP at this stage would be my recommendation.

I would agree with this advice. I work with a colleague who has a client in exactly the same position and they have approached their MP. With more people moving from IRESA some of whom will be receiving direct payments for care this is going to become a bigger problem.
