Joint claim advice

Hi.

I have a joint UC claim with my partner, I'm LCWRA on the claim, my partner is my carer and also recieves carers allowance. I'm also getting pip enhanced on both types with no length of time (I think it's called an ongoing period).

There is a chance for health reasons my partner will not be able to care for me for around four months. We realise that she will not be able to carry on with claiming carers allowance over this period. She would also not be living at our address for this time but in a care facility.

Does anyone have any knowledge on how this will affect our UC claim, and if it does affect the claim would I have to go through the whole process of claiming again as a single person and then again to start a joint claim? And would I need to go through the whole health assessment thing each time.

Many thanks.

Whatever happens your LCWRA status would be preserved, even if the claim changes between couple/single/couple.

Carers Element would stop alongside Carers Allowance while your partner isn't caring for you.

If you have any Transitional Protection, this would end if your claim changed from a couple to single.

I'd recommend consulting a trained benefits advisor, proper advice on Universal Credit and temporary care home stays I think needs professional input.

Kimi87, that is good solid advice, thank you. No TP, fresh claim from 2021, so that's one less thing to fret about.

I'll see about finding a trained advisor, we've a month or more before our final decision.

    Thanks again.
