hello my name is Alfie and I need help. My mum is looking to move out with her partner so it’s going to leave me homeless and I don’t know what to do as I’m 25 on benefits due to bad mental health conditions and I have two pets I’m just so lost and need any help. Please and thanks.

Hi @alfie_jay19 If you not already, then you need to register on your local council housing register. In the registration form there will be questions to ask if you are going to be homeless within 56 days or if your homeless now a number for you to ring them direct.

Also is it a possibility for your mum to name you as a joint tenant on the property, before she leaves, so that you could continue to live there? Good luck

I would suggest contacting Shelter or a local housing charity, for advice.

I am really sorry @alfie_jay19 It's good that you are being proactive in trying to find out your options. In addition to the suggestions already made if you are near a city some have a soup run with outreach workers who you may be able to talk to/type a note and hand it to them (if this is something you feel able to do).

Another concern is your pets. Some councils, such as my own, do not allow pets in emergency/temporary accommodation so people face an incredibly difficult decision: give up their pets to remain eligible for council support with housing or refuse accommodation offered due to not being allowed to keep pets, and the council then discharging their duty to support them to find accommodation. I really hope that isn't the case for your council. If it is the case in your area and you did not want to refuse any accommodation offered it might be worth finding out what options there are for your animals. I wish you the very best of luck.

Hi @alfie_jay19 and a warm welcome to the community from me!

I'm so sorry to hear about your situation, it sounds very stressful especially as there is pets involved. I can see that some lovely members of the community have already reached out with some good advice and signposting so I'll just include a few bits that I hope will be helpful.

Mayhew - Pet Refuge is short term pet refuge service if that might be helpful.

If you're in the North of England, Northern Ireland or Wales then there is Street Paws who may be able to offer some help finding accommodation that will take pets.

What pets do you have? There are dog specific, cat specific etc organisations that I can signpost you to if that would be helpful?

I hope you are okay and please update us if you feel comfortable to on how you are getting on😊I wish you the best of luck
