Scam.
DWP would never ask for card details.

it sent me to this site , I gave them my name and address and email , but stopped short giving them my bank details , it looked official

Its a scam, DWP wouldn't ever verify your card in such a way. Also if you entered your card details you may want to order a new card.
Also the phone number it came from isn't official.
and I'm pretty sure theres no news on winter fuel allowence this year.

Thank you for flagging this @whufcjay. It definitely looks like a scam as Kimi said the DWP wouldn't ask for card details.

I’m just glad I didn’t give my bank details as the site looked official , I gave my name and address but they can’t really do much with that

The website isn't even correct the only official website is Gov.UK not Gov.uk-(something).(something)

this looks real though
and the page before this looked genuine

Thats easily done, it would take me less than 5 minutes to copy any website. just press ctrl + U on any website and you can see the source code. You can copy these and add your own elements to make it look exactly the same.

the DWP have asked for my bank details before when I claimed universal credit so this didn’t seem strange , but anyway I didn’t give them my bank details I only gave them my name and address and email, they can’t do anything with just them details I guess

Did you give them your NI Number too? Name addresses and email don't seem much, but with it they can try get other information from you in future, or sell your details on.

No I didn’t give them my NI number , well they may have my address and email but they haven’t got my bank details so it should be ok

Yeah just make sure to update your passwords just in case, and have 2FA updated on your email to be safe. Also check your cookie folder to see if you downloaded any cookies from the website. Cookies can act as spyware and literally grab your passwords and details.

have I got a cookie folder on my phone ?

Don't give any information to these people at all, full stop.
If you do so by mistiake, then make sure you use firefox focus or firefox in ghost mode and set it to clear your cookies every time. You can get these for iphone or android, iphone automatically alerts you against fruad phone calls and texts. Firefox doesn't set cookies, it holds cookies apart so any other tracking cookie cannot attache it's self to it..Be safe with everything you do online and refrain giving information out.
