Good afternoon scope family,

As I am getting LWCRA I thought I give my dentist a call for appointment, well to my surprise they have took me off the register as I have not been that place since 2020.

Now I am trying to book a new patient appointment with a new dentist, and they are not wanting to know.

Unfortunately there is a chronic shortage of NHS dentists across the country.

Unless you get lucky hearing of new NHS patients being taken on at a particular practice, the only other options are going private or not going at all for routine dental checks.

If you had an urgent or emergency dental need, 111 can usually sort something out.

    Hi @Barrie786

That sounds really frustrating , it’s tough when you're finally ready to sort something out and then hit a wall like that. I hope you're not in too much pain with your teeth. Hopefully, you'll be able to find a dental practice taking on new patients soon!

Thank you, just wanted a routine clean, I was surprised that my dentist who I have been with over 25 years has took me off their registration.

Just have to look around and see what I can find

My NHS dentist went private with no warning a year or two back. There are no NHS appointments in the area, and I've gone through a lot of dentists which have been a bad match until I got to this one, so I've just taken on the private cost for now. I pay £21 a month and my dentist is great, she gets as much as she can into the monthly fee. If I have to have proper treatment it might be a problem, but at the moment I'd rather have a dentist I trust with my teeth than gamble with another stranger who ends up wrecking another of my teeth.

Fortunately my dentist also will do the hygenist stuff for me as well because she realises I don't want to deal with a stranger.

I haven't seen a dentist in years. They went private and didn't bother to tell me. The other one is private too, I really must make the effort to scout around further afield.

A number of years ago, I was a patient of a really good Dutch dentist, but he went home feeling undervalued, all because of Bre***it. What a shame.

I’m on the waiting list for a local dentist, heaven knows when I’ll get seen. I’ve got a very strong crippling phobia of Dentists 😨 I need to contact 111 to get a broken tooth removed, I’ve been before but my stomach condition stopped me going. My broken tooth is a wisdom tooth and the tooth is hooked under a nerve! 🤢

I want to go back and ask for sedation, when they remove it they may as well remove the remaining two above, or the whole lot, I’d rather have a set of dentures.

    💯 true, such a shame

I have called at least ten dentists today and nothing at all, all they want is us to go private which I cannot as it is so expensive

One local dentist was "only" £18.99 per month, but the cost of getting anything done would be out of reach for me. I just clean my teeth very thoroughly and at 50 yo, have had virtually no work needed so far.
