Over 13 months…do I have any luck of getting carers element backpayment?
hi guys. I don’t live with my partner I spend 3 days there and four days at my parents. We are both on ADP and UC. Both disabled. Different disabilities.he has been on ADP since October 2023 and is LWCRA. I did not claim for and get carers element awarded until last week. Making it about 20 months.
Last week on a disability group online I was telling them about the caring I do for my partner and they told about the carer element. I was awarded the next day. I am looking to get it backdated to when he first went on ADP, however I am reading online that I there is a 13 month cutoff point for doing this and “I didn’t know carers element was a thing” doesn’t wash
I am on LCW myself, in and out of hospital and doctors appointments, having focal seizures weekly, autistic, depressed and am not stable on epilepsy meds yet, while being a carer for him. I visited CAB and spoke to several disability charities, none who bloody mentioned carers element until this week. I also mentioned my disabled partner in passing to my UC work coach and was not told about it but that’s not altogether his fault.
Me and partner don’t live together I spend about 50 hours a week there caring for him.
