I was diagnosed a couple of years ago as autistic and was referred by my GP to York Retreat. The assesment itself isnt too bad as I had a member of my family with me to help me if I couldnt answer any of the questions. This may make things easier for you. It was held on 'Zoom' This is a peice of software that allows people to chat on video online, but would also enable them to see written answers.
They are professionals who will make you feel at ease, so dont worry at all.

Please don't worry - the professionals doing these assessments are very experienced and can get so much information from everything about you (again, don't worry!) They will be picking things up from your whole presentation.
Usually, in an autism assessment, someone that has known you from childhood comes with you for the first one (that applies to verbal autistic people too) as they have good information about how you played as a child, when you reached milestones, how your eating was etc etc.
If you have no parent/close relative that can come with you, a partner or friend can also help just with a perspective on how you manage in certain situations.
They start with a case history, session 2 is usually the ADOS assessment, and session 3 is feedback.
You might find you enjoy doing it - they will be friendly and put you at your ease.
All the best.

hi all, so the assessment is done. i feel completely wrecked. So many questions . i have no idea how it went or if i explained things well enough, will find out in few days. dont think i will feel less wrecked until i know the decision. its so stressful

Well done for getting through it. I know how tiring it is. Try not to worry about the result now, there's nothing more you can do, it's in their hands. If the decision doesn't go your way then you can tackle that when the time comes. For now, try to be kind to yourself and relax.

Well done for taking this step. Feeling exhausted is understandable; so much mental processing! I bet you were quite tense as well so it will take a while to come down from all that. Worth it though🙂
