Hi people , I have a question.... I receive 777 pounds a month .... Ive been on benefits from 2008 .... I'm disappointed to say I began gambling as my mental health ( serve OCD and intrusive thoughts and behaviour ) got worse .....as it deteriorated over the years , to the point I find myself in now where I've been housebound for 6 years , I haven't been outside once not even in the garden , it's like some nightmare you can't wake up from ..... My gambling addiction I've beaten after many years ( alot of transactions in and out but the money was never in my account long and nearly 90% of the time it was gambled straight back I'm ashamed to say , it never ever went over 6000 at anyone time but I think for a few hours once years ago I did have around 5000 , again not over the 6000 so never had anything to declare , again gambled away very quickly ..... I joined GameStop back in January 2022 and haven't gambled since so 4 years nearly ( quite proud of that actually ) ☺️ ..... My OCD is as bad as ever but gambling would make it impossible to live with these days ..... The thing is , now most of my money just goes on expensive junk food , my mum lends me money through the month for it and I just pay her back for it , I always seem to be a month behind ..... I would like to try and eat healthy and start exercising as my personal hygiene and physical health has been non existent in the last 6 years ..... Most days I can't move , today was a perfect example of that , just watched the sun come up and watched it go back down without even moving position , completely quiet , dead silence infact .... I would like to try and eat healthy and to be honest I would like to try and make myself look better , I used to look nice years ago , some people would even say handsome 😂 .....
I'd like to build some sort of wardrobe of clothes as I have absolutely none ( nothing other than a few lounge about clothes , I would like to save up for some but it's just so scary at the moment , you read so many stories about what your allowed to do and what your not , I'm not sure what I can spend my money on ..... But I know if I keep on the way I'm going Im going to die , if I don't do something to change my life it's only going to end one way Ive had bad feelings recently and been pretty desperate .... Even if I can't go out I feel like eating healthier and looking nicer would lift me , it probly sound stupid to people but making yourself more presentable even if no-one else sees it can help someone's mood and if I can pair it with some exercise I think it could really help .... I've just bought a walking machine and some headphones ( the headphones were over 200 pounds but , I've started listening to music with them and it's helped me )
I have a plan in my head I just wondered if it would be acceptable and if anyone had any advice for me ?
I get 777 a month so my plan is as follows
My mum would let me off what I owe her for a month so I'm completely up to date and ready to put my plan into action
1. 70 pounds a week on healthy food .........so 280 a month
2 . 20 pounds a month phone bill
3 . 10 pounds a month medication
4 . 20 pounds a week on ingredients for smoothies so 80 pounds a month
5. 40 pounds a month on health supplements , magnesium and vitamin D
6 . 30 pounds a month on face creams and hair strengthening as my personal appearance is really taking a beating
7. ...30 pounds on toiletries
8... around 300 a month on clothes
I have no muscle in my body , as you can imagine being literally bedbound for 6 years takes a big toll physically as well as mentally
The main aim of this , mixed with exercise is to get me up and on my feet , with the goal of maybe in 2 to 3 years being able to walk outside and have some sort of life ....
I would let the 770 build up in my account over the month ....
My mum would then draw out cash 470 at the end of each month ..... That would be for my food , medication , smoothies , supplements , face creams and tollitries
I would pay my phone on a card
And I would then start buying clothes for 250 to 300 a month
I know to alot of people this may sound like a waste of money , but spending it all on junk food and looking like **** to me is a bigger waste ..... I'm also in the fortunate position of living with parents and I don't have any bills .....
So if anyone could give me advice if they think this could work for me .... Or of I'm not allowed to spend my money in this way it would be much appreciated .... Thank you

I can offer you one hope with respect to your clothes. My wife is disabled and does not have much money but she has built up a very extensive wardrobe at little cost. How does she do it? She buys most of her clothes from TEMU and the quality is good. They sell clothes for men and women. I accept that they come from China but then clothes on sale in the high street also say Made in China so there is no difference. The only drawback is that you need a computer to access their site. Give it a try. It does not cost anything to look.
I hope you can get some decent clothes and be able to start walking again.

I only have trackies, t shirts, and fleeces. No point dressing up to sit at home in a powerchair.

I love this @Danny123! I'm on a bit of a similar personal journey, recently bought a treadmill and started spending more on clothes and it really makes a difference. I wish you all the best with this, take small steps and don't put too much pressure on yourself to change everything at once. Please let us know how you're getting on with it all!😊

Really? I’d feel a bit self conscious going to a club myself now, most of the crowd there would probably be teenagers and twenty somethings.
Now I'm reminded of that scene in the TV show The Office where Michael Scott is at a young people’s party. It's a good TV show, btw. You should check it out if you haven't seen it.

I don't care who is looking, I am used to that with the scooters and powerchair. I just want to close my eyes and feel the atmosphere and a bit of acid house or techno. I will love that music, no matter how old I am.

Lol, Pete Tong is 65yo now, still DJing.

Vinted is great for clothes and ethical too. I filter by new or very good and have had some real bargains.
@Chris75_ I hear you! I was still going to a few raves up till covid hit. My son started djing so I came out of retirement for a few years. @Ross1975 it was wonderful and I didn’t feel self conscious. Admittedly there were more young than old but not completely overrun. I was 45 then.

At 49 I don't think I'd be able to fit into my old raving gear any more. How about you, Chris? Reckon you could still get into an early 90's Naf Naf or NASA coat?

Aye, I still love rave music from the late 80's and early 90's, I quite like the idea of going to a rave or club as long as most of the other people there are older too.

I had a number of NAF NAF sweaters, them and Valentino, Martinique etc. Not thought about them in many years! I supposeci could at least fit some of me into a pair of my wide-leg jeans. Remember Travel Fox and British Knights trainers?

☺️ .....
I was born in 80 .... I can remember alot about the 80s but not to much about the fashion brands , I can remember mum always dressing me and my brother in the same outfits 😂 .... I remember my mum buying me my first pair of Jordans in the Roman road in bethnal green , they were the original Jordans the first ones to ever come out , I remember they were 24 pound , I remember that so well , the same pair now you can pick them up for a mere 10 grand 😂 ..... I remember wearing alot of champion , fila and Reebok around that time , there was a sort of winter brand that did winter coats called campri or something like that , like ski coats .... I remember the early 90s fashion alot more , Nike air max , champion trainers , had alot of those different colour suede fila trainers , red , orange .. .. Patrick Ewing's , Reebok pumps , then clothes brands were , chippie , Pepe , bsco , diesel , soviet , .... Loads of naff naff , I had a suede jacket as well , but I always remember the puffer jackets they brought out , they were massive in the early 90s ....the suede 8 ball jackets , Charlie browns Then as you got into the mid 90s when I was leaving school , it was Reebok classics , Reebok exofit , Patrick Cox , Gucci loafers , lot of Yves saint Lauren .... Moshino was big .... Ralph Lauren , Burberry , levis , nickleson jackets , iceberg ..... It's gone absolutely crazy now with designer wear .... See when I was growing up big fashion houses like that only done smart wear , now that they have all crossed over to street wear the prices are ridiculous .... And to be honest the clothes look ridiculous , ....
