Hi

I'm looking for advice for a up and coming pip assessment which is now face to face. The issue is I have hypersensitivity to noise, cooking including Taste Smell Texture. I have sensory issues with washing and bathing which includes issues with regulating my body temperature. I am not always able to distinguish between hot and cold which includes water. I have struggled in the last two summers with the heat and have melt downs. I have sensory issues with clothing and can only wear certain clothing. I have sensory issues with hearing. I can here conversations from afar I struggle in the outside environment.

I have been diagnosed with serve sleep apnea and use a machine. The machine is awful I hate it and it takes a lot of care from my wife to get me to use it. Without it I could lose my licence which causes more panic and anxiety. I have a diagnosis of Autism and mental health including depression, anxiety and panic.

At my last pip tribunal I was believed I had issues with needing help with mixing with others and treatments in that my medication is given to me rather than taking myself. I do have suicidal thoughts but that comes from my lack of understanding society as a whole. I have a very supportive family so there is no concerns of my thoughts. My concerns are that I have basically been told yes I have Autism but all my sensory issues are lifestyle choices. I wish they was I have read that the NHS recognise that between 65 to 90 percent of autistic people suffer sensory issues. I was told by the Judge in her Statement of Reasons that it is not medically credible to suffer from sensory issues in regards to temperature and the rest is all lifestyle. Is there a way of getting tested for Sensory issues.

I don't think there is a set diagnosis for sensory issues, however my autism diagnostic report includes all my sensory issues in there.

Hi @AAmd2025, sorry to hear someone has spoken about your sensory issues like that, that must be upsetting considering how seriously they can affect you.

You said in the post that the judge mentioned it in their statement of reasons last time, did you manage to get an award at all?

Is there anyone who can be with you during your tribunal? Sometimes it can be helpful to have someone there to help prompt you if you forget or don't feel able to express yourself.

I hope some of our members will have some more advice to share soon ☺️

Hi Rosie I had my tribunal in November 2024 was awarded 0 Points for preparing food 0 points for washing and bathing 0 points for dressing

4 points for help mixing with others

1 point for medication

The judge basically said my sensory issues are all life style choices. I was told that been unable to control body temperature was not medically credible. I did appeal on the grounds of a error in law but all to no avail. Sensory issues are mentioned in my diagnosis which was submitted as evidence although it states my sensory issues where not observed.
