Phone call re high rate mobility at PIP review

My husband had his PIP review in December 2025 and was awarded the same standard rate mobility. Due to his worsening mobility and ongoing pain, he asked for it to be looked at again for high rate mobility. 2 days ago he had an unexpected phone call from PIP. The phone call was very quick. The lady asked a few questions and then said he will get a decision by post. He asked for high rate mobility as he has got a blue badge+ home disabled parking bay from our council since December and is now using 2 sticks to walk, continued pain medication and regular physio.

Yes he will get the decision by letter as advised by the person who called him.

Hopefully you won't be waiting too long for the decision letter @Ikonik

The unexpected call is likely to have been from the decision maker carrying out the mandatory reconsideration. It is quite standard practice for them not to provide the outcome during the call.

Most mandatory reconsiderations are unsuccessful, so please do not be disheartened if it is rejected and the decision remains unchanged. You can still proceed with an appeal to tribunal, where a much higher percentage of appeals are successful.

Wishing you the best of luck with the outcome.

Applied to tribunal about higher rate mobility, so could be waiting a long time for a decision
