Universal Credit and Caring
Hi. Me and my husband are separating and I will be applying for universal credit.
At the moment I care for my disabled Mum. There is another carer who helps cares for Mum aswell and they receive the carers allowance. My questions are:
Because I am providing full time care but not entitled to carers allowance because someone else is claiming it will I still be classed as a carer for universal credit? Will I still be able to have no work requirements?
Am I correct that I wouldn't be entitled to the carers element off universal credit because someone else is already claiming carers allowance for Mum?
Thanks

Without receiving Carers Element or Carers Allowance you can't formally be classed as a carer & removed from a requirement to look for work. You may or may not get an understanding work coach.
Yea that's correct, two different people cannot both get caring related benefits for looking after the same person.

Thank you very much. That is what I understood to be correct. Thanks

No, if someone else is claiming UC carer's allowance, you won't be able to claim it yourself, especially if you live in the same Household as the existing claimant.
