Buying a house with inheritance, Can I apply for UC after?

Hi,

Firstly sorry about how this is written. I have had several panic attacks trying to word this correctly.

Two years ago I inherited 75k and ended my claim to UC. I lived off of 25k and my pip for these two years. The remainder I am now buying a house with as we are at threat of eviction due to overcrowding. Most council and housing association properties also do not meet our needs as my three children all have disabilities and therefore cannot share rooms. We also need two bathrooms due to incontinance issues. My children are on a child in need plan due to their disabilities and one of the actions on there is to have a stable home to auit everyones needs.

There will be no money left to survive on.

Could I apply straight away for UC after the purchase of my house? Or is this seen as deprivation of capital? Also is PIP and DLA classed as income?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. I am absolutely terrified about being made homeless or ending up buying a house I cannot afford. Nor do I want to cause any issues with the DWP. The DWP scare me as I have cptsd and part of that is fear of authorities due to fear of not being believed

Buying your only home you live in is not deprivation of capital.

Thank you for your reply. I really hope so as our situation as a family is not great.

    Hi,

Can you buy a house for £50k in your area? I certainly can't where I live.

Remember Universal Credit will not pay Housing Costs for a mortgage. They only pay for rent.

PIP and DLA are not usually classed as income.
