Hi, my question is, I am hearing impaired, which means in my case my right ear is completely deaf, I can hear in my left ear, but I feel that it is not perfect either, I am afraid to continue a telephone conversation because I keep misunderstanding the words. My GP approved the specialist examination after 3 years, however, something got stuck in the process again, because they cannot find the results of the examination. I would not need the examination results (because I feel how the condition is changing my life) but I have to fight with offices every day because they do not believe me when I have to refer to my condition, because I cannot hear the conversation on the phone, but there are offices where it is not even possible to have a written conversation. Official administration is a real war for me. I also tried to talk to Universal Credit, they did not even reply to my letter. Can you tell me something about what I can do in this case, Eszter.

It sounds like you're going through a lot of stress at the moment, the admin side of things can definitely be very overwhelming and stressful. Do you have anybody to support you through it all?

You can request reasonable adjustments to organisations and the GP under the Equality Act 2010 and let them know that phone calls are inaccessible due to your hearing impairment and that all future communication to be by email or letter.

If you ever must use the phone, you can use Relay UK where a relay assistant can type what the caller says.

You can also make a complaint to Universal Credit if you feel like that would be helpful or if you feel like you are not getting anywhere with them or they're not offering reasonable adjustments.

It also may be worth contacting PALS as they may be bale to help track down your missing medical results a bit faster than the GP.

Universal Credit communication is all managed in the online journal. I am not sure what you would need to write a letter to them for?

I have had speech difficulties for years but am also now deaf in one ear and am equally irritated by the amount of verbal communication that seems to be required even in the internet age!
