Good afternoon

I need advice please

So my brother is claiming carers element as he was caring for my daughter on thursday he stopped caring for her

But he is refusing to tell universal credit that he stopped

What can i do can i put a note on my journal that my brother has stopped caring for my daughter if i add his name and date of birth or does he need to do it as mentioned he is refusing to let universal credit know that he stopped caring

Hi,

They would need it to come from his journal, not yours. The alternative would be for you to call UC and basically make a complaint about him, without it being anything to do with your own UC claim.

There may be other implications to him losing the Carers Element. If he's not working and didn't get LCWRA before becoming a carer, he would now be classed as a Job Seeker and have to start looking for work otherwise he could be sanctioned.

Obviously I don't know the exact circumstances here but just wanted to say that there is more to it than just the money.

i dont really know how it works i dont want to mess up my claim but he has been taking the mickey a bit, i dont want to see him go without but he isnt helping any more and it doesnt feel fair

Has your brother given a reason for why he doesn't want to tell Universal Credit @kath92? Are you on good terms with him? Perhaps you could gently explain to him that it will become a much more serious problem if this comes out later, rather than sorting it now.

It does count as benefit fraud if he's no longer caring for your daughter but still claiming, so the longer this goes on the tougher UC will be on him should they find out.

Hopefully there's a civil way to get things sorted!
