Welcome to the community @kathyj
There are so many anecdotes of people saying the same thing as you, that professionals need to sometimes listen a lot more to parents and carers.
There are lots of parents, grandparents and carers on the community who you can connect with so jump in and get posting around the site.
We have a post with tips for an Autism friendly Christmas that might be helpful to you?
