Friends for my daughter like her, and getting chiropody on the NHS

Hi - i have a 20 year old daughter with cerebral palsy. She does have friends, but still becomes disheartened because her disabilities are more physical than mental/learning and she is still keen for a close friend with whom she feels she has a lot in common. We are not disrespecting people with mainly learning/mental disabilities, but I do understand her point of view. She wants a friend who can totally relate to her and vice versa, though she does have friends with mainly learning disabilities. We live in Norfolk. Also, does anyone else have trouble getting chiropody on the NHS? We have a very good specialist doctor who has referred my daughter but we have also been told by others that only diabetes sufferers are entitled to chiropody on the NHS?

@Pinkbutterfly regarding getting chiropody on the NHS what you have been told is not strictly true. See https://www.nhs.uk/chq/pages/1099.aspx

One reason why diabetis is prioritised is the condition can lead to amputation.

The article refers mainly to the primary care team who now have to commission the spending on treatment against their budgets. As your daughter was referred by a specialist doctor she should hopefully be seen.

How do I privately send you a message on here to give you her email address. Also she's on fb. Funnily enough she's been to the Calvert Trust in Devon. She loves it.

@Pinkbutterfly if you scroll up and look on the right hand side there is a grey box with your username in it. Below your name should be 4 purple icons, the second one on the left will allow you to message other members privately.

I am open to sharing stories and experiences, I know how hard it is for someone with no learning difficulties to be exclusively surrounded by those with them, Sometimes just some open, frank conversation is good.

I hate to double post, but yeah... Pinkbutterfly, if you send me a pm I'd love to chat to you to find out a bit more about your daughters situation, and maybe I can recommend or suggest ways to help?
