Hi everyone I'm sure there are lots more nans that have become mums to their grandkids like I recently have at nearly 62. It's a minefield with the benefit system,  no help not even a form that suits our situation so nothing is simple or straight forward. Hopefully there are experienced nans and grandads on here that can give valid information as I try to full fill a parents role again to a 3 1/2 yrs old girl x

Hello @NannaJJ and welcome to our community.

If you  need help with benefits we have an ask benefit advisor section https://community.scope.org.uk/categories/ask-a-benefits-advisor please note that they are busy at the moment and can take a few days to respond, and usually do so between Monday and Friday.

We also have a number of other specialists/advisors who can offer advice. If you scroll to the bottom there is a large purple box with the different sections we currently have. Most of these are volunteers so may take a little time to reply, but members will also step in if they can help.

@Sam_Scope may know some of our members who have similar experiences.

Scope has a fantastic help line if you need a quick answer.

    Hi @NannaJJ, and welcome!

I'd recommend having a look at the online benefits calculator, to see what you may be entitled to. Scope's website also has information about specific benefits, and the community can support you if you choose to apply. You may also be particularly interested in our parents and carers category
