I'm considering a residential setting for my 12 yr old son

Hi I have a 12 year old non verbal, GDD, ASD son. Despite best efforts at a special school his progress has been very slow (if anything at all).

I'm considering a residential setting for him now - would this have to be recommended by an EP?
