Council Tax liability -Sheltered Accommodation

I am an elderly sick and disabled man living in one room of sheltered accommodation facility. The facility is shared by 7 other residents. I am incapable of working. I receive DWP PIP and ESA benefits, and Housing Benefit. My Rent Breakdown includes a weekly charge of £2.61 for Council Tax. My question is: Even though the charge is paid for directly to my landlord from my Housing Benefit, is my landlord eligible to receive this payment each week, from 'MY' Housing Benefit? I believe that the landlord is liable to pay for Council Tax due to the nature of the facility? I would be very grateful for any sound advice/answers please.

Hi @Roddy
It is my understanding that along with your rent you have to pay Council Tax, water rates and energy bills and you usually have to pay a regular service charge. If I were you I would ask the landlord the question directly for your own piece of mind.

@Antonia_Scope Your post was very timely one. I have just had an hour long mediation on the telephone regarding one of my claims for overpayment to my landlord for services charges. My landlord's solicitors will not budge and are refusing to pay. They tried to offer me a bargaining tool of 3 months free rent, but I declined. The case will now proceed to a court hearing.Antonia_Scope said:Hi @Roddy Did you get through to your landlord? Please keep us updated or if you have any questions, let us know
Two further cases of Discrimination against my landlord have also been Protectively Issued and will be served to my landlord during the next 8 weeks.
These are very tiring and stressful times for me, as no court case is 100% successful and any judge can only follow the law. I however, consider that my landlord has indeed broken the law and is liable. It's just a question now of what to do if I lose as the costs will be the death of me.

Hi @Roddy, it's nice to hear from you and thank you for updating us. I am sorry to hear this, I can understand why this time is stressful. But, I am hoping this will not be the case and it all goes according to plan.
Please continue to keep us updated.
