My partner has to go to PIP from DLA. How long do claimants have to wait from DLA stopping and PIP payments starting. We are terrified. What do we live on. I am ill too but haven't claimed for me yet as I've been having lifesaving surgery and am a bit useless at the mo. My partner has been awarded a lifetime award now we are are so stresses and in bits

As far as I know no one gets a lifetime appeal now its 3 years at a time but could be wrong. My wife was told it's not a lifetime award now. Good luck and I hope you dont have to wait long.

The stress is horrible I feel your pain we are the same and now have been sent a letter to go for an ESA assessment which just adds more stress and anxiety for everyone.

My partner has been registered disabled since he was 28 and now he's 63. He is in chronic pain continually. He was awarded a lifetime award way back now they're just throwing it away
My question is how long will we be without income when dla stops. Will it roll straight over or will we be hungry and get into debt
I'm not well and undergoing investigations for MS that stopped when they found lung cancer, so far I've made no claims for me, I've been a tad preoccupied now we're very frightened

Hello @jeannettestevenson and welcome to the community.
When your partner apples for PIP, their DLA will continue until a PIP decision is made, so you shouldn't be without.
Have you already submitted the forms for PIP? Keep in mind that PIP has different criteria than DLA.

We got the letter today to inform us of the change. The forms are to follow, then more assessment altho he's been thru MOD assessments etc

It's so stressful I know how he feels. I'm so stressed with it all too as we are still waiting on the dwp paying us our backdated money we have been waiting 5 weeks and can take up to 8 weeks it's horrible having to wait i hope you can find something to help you through things.

We are the same Jeanette....I am 6 months off my 65th birthday , I got indefinite DLA. Of course that makes no difference to the PIP assessment. I have now been sent a 40 page questionnaire to fill in . My wife will get the carers centre form filler to fill it in ....but first of all we are going over the form bit by bit and answering each question in a notebook first and keeping that copy ( plus we will try and get a copy of it in the carers centre once its filled out.) ....good luck Jeanette...and your husband . Try not to worry to much .

I should maybe have said that I got these forms in 6 years ago and we filled them out ourselves ....I heard nothing from that date until last week  when we got PIP forms in again , my wife phoned them to say that I am wanting to claim PIP ...the lady on the phone said that I was already on PIP ( which we never knew as all my payments ect are DLA ) No written confirmation of PIP in those six years . The lady on the phone said I was already on PIP ( that was the first we heard of it ) she said this was PIP2 ( whatever that is) . Good luck Jeanette.

The PIP2 is the how your disability affects you form. Check your bank account and that will tell you if you're receiving PIP because it will have PIP next to the payment.

Thanks Poppy ....I sent all that information on the first form I filled in ( approx 6 years ago) according to my bank account , its DLA I receive.  Which I have received for nearly twenty years now . I am so mad at not getting any information over the last six years . My wife keeps and files all bank and all DLA Letters . ..6th

DLA is different to PIP. PIP is about how your conditions affect your ability to carry out daily activity based on the PIP descriptors.

I'm not sure why the person at DWP told you you're already claiming PIP if you're not. If your payments state DLA next to them then you're definitely not claiming PIP.

I have just double checked  Poppy ...and my bank payments last month are marked DLA ..... that's weird that the lady on the phone at the DWP saying I was already on PIP and this is PIP 2 ....I have received no notification from DWP to say I had been moved to PIP ....the only difference is now ESA on my bankmstatement is now marked   EESA , can you please enlighten me on that  Poppy ? ...I,m totally at a loss to why I would not have received notification that I had been moved on to PIP 6 years ago when I filled the required forms in ... i expected a face to face assessment of course ....but not hearing anything i thought that PIP had been delayed ....especially after reading at that time about a huge back log .?

The 2 doesn't mean that it's your 2nd application. There's a PIP1 which is filled in over the phone when you ring to start your claim off and then they send you the PIP2 which is the "how your disability affects you form"

PIP and ESA are completely different and the EESA next to your ESA payments is just a code DWP use when paying money into a claimants bank account.

When exactly did you fill in the previous forms? Are you sure it wasn't forms for a completely different benefit like......ESA. You'll be amazed the people that get confused between all the benefits..

Hi again Poppy ....I checked the application questionaire for PIP that I was sent ....it says
...Mr *****....your DLA  is ending ...if you wish to claim PIP , you must fill in this form ...etc etc . 
So it looks like the lady on the phone is mistaken about me already being on PIP ....and also mistaken about it being PIP 2 . ??? 
My wife is going tomorrow ( monday) to get help to fill in the forms at the carers centre . I cannot understand why the DWP mentioned PIP 2 on the phone and also saying I was on PIP already( i wonder what happened to the forms i sent in around 6 years ago ) it does not instill much faith in this system of working if one person from DWP tells us one thing and another person from DWP tells us another thing . . I have less than three weeks to fill these forms in and I have been asked to send in any doctors or specialist medical  reports . It could not have came at a worse time as my doctor retired last week and his 3000 patients ( including me and my wife) are in the process of getting changed over to another doctor ?

The form you received is called "PIP2" there's no mistake in that.

I have no idea what form you filled in 6 years ago but at the moment you're still claiming PIP so it doesn't really matter. What you need to do is concentrate on filling that form in.

You can request a 14 day extension to return that form but i'd advise you to send it at least 1 week before it needs to be back. It can take at least this long for them to receive it and for it to be added onto the computer.

Do make sure you send evidence to support your claim because they very rarely contact anyone for this the onus is on you to make sure it's sent.

Ah...thanks Poppy , you have made things a bit clearer , thanks . My wife was on the phone for over half an hour answering questions about me ( I am deaf so cannot take part in phone conversations). The lady on the phone was very helpful ....that must have been the PIP claim started ....and they sent me an application form for PIP  ( about 40 pages long)...about a week later I received it.  With that form is  a booklet titled "How your Disability affects you - information booklet " ...Thanks very much for your help to understand it all Poppy . I must admit that I,m getting on a bit now and I took assessment panels in my stride when I was younger ....the old grey matter does not work so quickly now I,m afraid ? 
I was hoping that I would get to 65 before they got in touch with me ....no such luck .?

You're welcome. Unfortunately, it wouldn't have made any difference if you were 65 already because you still would  have been invited to apply. All those that were under 65 on 8th April 2013 will be invited to apply.

Once again....thank you Poppy . There is so much misleading information out there that I was led to believe that those over 65 would not be getting invited to apply.. 
Can I just add another question ....my wife , who missed out on her pension by three weeks (5 years ago)....she is now 65  ( last month ).... has been told she is not entitled to get her pension until next year ( January) ...anywhere we have asked just told us that "thats the rules" ... that makes my wife 65 and 6 months old before she gets her pension, we were led to believe that the pension age for women is 65 ....is it due to " just the rules " ? anywhere else I read about pensions is 65 for women and 66 for men ...and may change again soon ...thanks .

@seanchai - I believe that it's being phased in, as the pension age is rising to 66, and then 67.

Most likely the  pension age for your wife is now 66, but she's getting it a few months early as she's in the changeover bit..
