Hi @laney1970. Are you still within the same council? Were you claiming housing benefit previously?

Hi,

Looking back at your previous thread here https://community.scope.org.uk/discussion/64276/esa-change-of-cir-umstances#latest

You said you were staying with the same local council. If you were claiming housing benefit in your previous address then you'll be able to reclaim it, providing you didn't change councils.

If you weren't claiming housing benefit at all in your previous address then i'm afraid you'll have to claim UC.

laney1970

I was claiming housing benefit in my old house

laney1970

They are still saying no I need to claim uc

Are you 100% sure that you didn't move to a different council?

laney1970

Yes 100% sure I've only moved around the corner from my old address

Then i can assure you that you can definitely claim housing benefit because this isn't classed as a change of circumstances.

Who ever is advising you that you can't claim it, is incorrect.

laney1970

There saying your incorrect

Do you have a link which says this so I can show them

Hi @laney1970,

It is not the first time I have come across Council's getting this wrong! If you have not moved areas then you can still claim HB.

Shelter has some useful information that you can quote to your Council if they are still not convinced.

I agree with @Joanne_Scope , i've heard of this happening so many times. As you've stayed with the same council then you report the changes and they recalculate your existing housing benefit claim.

That link above doesn't work for me, try this shelter link here and scroll to moving home. https://england.shelter.org.uk/housing_advice/benefits/how_to_deal_with_changes_to_your_housing_benefit/how_a_change_affects_your_housing_benefit
