My 18 year old son recently had to apply for UTC. It did take over a week to get him identified but once he was, a good advisor called him to explain he wouldn't be getting his backdated money until the 6th May. He did however tell him he could borrow some which would only take 2 days to assess and be in his bank account. He could borrow up to £350 and pay it back over 10 months. So if you are are put off with the process, persevere and claim what is yours.
