Anxious with filling in PIP application.

Georg59Georg59 Member Posts: 12 Listener
Hello everyone one. It's taken a day or two to write this asking for advice. I have a PIP form to be sent by 21st November. I've contacted CAB for some help but still waiting to receive a phone call . I'm on ESA Support Allowence last 6yrs. Just had my successful renewal back .
Applied for PIP back 6 yrs had to go to court which was very stressful. Judge agreed with my illness but apparently my entry dates of illness they didn't agree with me still working part-time. Judge said if I applied later I'd of been successfull . The experience put me off to reapply till now.
So im looking for confidence & guidence to help me fill out the complicated form .

    HI and welcome,

You should fill out the form with as much relevant information as possible about how your conditions affect you. Adding a couple of recent real world examples of what happened the last time you attempted that activity for each descriptor that applies to you. Also put who was with you, where you were and exactly what happened.

You can ring DWP for an extension to return the forms but make sure that you send it will plently of time to allow it to arrive. Post going to DWP can take up to 10 working days to be added to the computer. Signed for next day deleivery is a waste of money because it doesn't mean it's arrived with DWP. Proof of posting is all that's needed, which is free from any post office.

    Good luck.

Hi and welcome it is unlikely CAB will help at the current time apart from over phone there is also welfare rights may help

Just take the form a bit at a time and as advised maybe ring to get an extension

    Good luck with the claim

Thank you janer , going to take your advice & start filling in form myself , not that it'll be worded that good but will try . When is the best date to aim to post back ? 21st November is the deadline date .

In all honesty you need to allow a couple of weeks as until they have it and it is scanned on the system it wont show as received and this can take a while

As advised you can ring for extension or fill it in send it then ring couple days b4 deadline to see if they have it if not tell them you have sent it and date and can they extend deadline

I would try send it by 11th if you can

There's no specific wording that you need to use when filling out these forms. Just fill it in as advised in my previous comment. The best person to know how your conditions affect you is yourself. Do a little each day until it's completed and ring for the extension, this way you'll have more time to fill it in.

Hi @Georg59 - Just to add a little to the advice given above, please have a look at the following activities/descriptors to see what's looked at in PIP, in case you haven't done so before. Please see: https://www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/asset-library/Scores-for-PIP-Descriptors-2020.pdf  & read right through to the notes at the end about being able to do an activity safely, to an acceptable standard, repeatedly & in a reasonable time period.
As mentioned above, PIP is all about how your disability affects these activities of daily living &/mobility. Those detailed examples of the difficulties you may have in attempting/doing any activity that applies to you are what's needed.
Do ring the DWP & ask for an extension in completing your PIP claim form (they give another 14 days).

Thank you for the link Chiareds , I've tried a few times to open link but won't open . It's my tablet I think .

It works fine for me. It's a pdf file so you need something on your tablet to be able to open it with, like adobe reader, which you can download onto your tablet.

@Georg59 - you say that your application won't be "worded that good."

It will be clear that it's written by you with your experience and examples (not cut and paste from elsewhere!!)

    Good luck!

Just update that Citizens Advice rung today to tell me they are organising a colleague to ring me to go through the application , apparently it'll be their own application forms to fill in then posted to me to sign then to forward to PIP . I thought the official form I received is the only one that can be filled in .
Also my reports have to be copied by cab .

I would also agree with the comments that the more medical evidence then the better including Doctor, Specialist Letter and medications and its always worth if you haven't done calling and saying due to difficulties and the current situation you require more time and note the days in the diary that you made calls.
