Hi, my name is flatcap! Is there a wheelchair cushion you'd recommend?

Hello.
I have a pain in the bum question. Well pain on the backside with all the sitting, any advice out there? Is there a wheelchair cushion you'd recommend? I'm in the UK and have tried a few but none of them prove to offer pain-free comfort after the first hour. There are loads of different ones on the market but I could spend a fortune and still not find a suitable one. Any suggestions?

    Hello @flatcap

Welcome to the community, good to see you join us.

If you've tried a few already without success have you considered speaking with your GP to see if there's anything they would recommend?

I have the same problem and feel when I am on the street with all the uneven pavements etc I get bumped up and down all the time I am out. My GP would have no idea at all about wheelchair cushions. I look forward to reading what replies you get from others on the forum. Thanks for asking this question.

Same problem here not sure there is a solution as sitting in the same position for any length of time will cause aches as well as being bumped around

I remember the cushion I used while I was at rehab, it was so comfy! I think it was called Qbitis or Qbitus I think. Highly recommend them! :)

Hi, Flatcap again, thanks for the good info but I looked up Qbitus and they (eventually) quoted me £345 for a cushion - it wasn't magic or anything. It's very expensive being disabled.

Is there no way some kind of suspension could be put on wheelchairs?
Does a thick pad of memory foam help at all?

For some reason I read your name as flatcap but hear it in my head as catflap... :)

(There's a cat asleep under my cap) ? I've not tried memory foam yet, but I've tried all sorts of others, including gel cushions to no avail. Even tried some bespoke sponge, which I further adjusted - well, cut bits out. I shall try some other possible fixes, I've not given up but I thought to ask you kindly experts first. (I should have gone for 'catflap' for my username, I like cats.)

My previous chair had a fixed seat that had the cushion built in and it was comfortable. Now I have a removable cushion which is ......... (well make your own mind up) it is too expensive to keep buying cushions especiallyat £345 quoted above and find it is ....... (once again make your own mind up) I have had the same problem with my bad mattress.

2 inch thick gel wheelchair cushion.
     "VIVE" brand on Amazon https://smile.amazon.com/Wheelchair-Cus ... 3639671b2d

They do not last forever. Get this squished down and softer over time. Have tried a zillion chair cushions. Highly suggest an electric "stand up desk" (Jarvis) and vary 3 positions: standing sitting (good chair with seat cushion low sitting (huge fat bean bag)
