Hi, my name is James_Marigott! Device to help with picking things up off the ground

Hey, I have been suffering from back pain from my mid 50's (I am now into my 70's) and struggle when picking up small objects like coins, pens and snacks that I drop onto the floor. I have tried to use devices that I have found at shops, which help pick things up, however, I still find they slip out, and that the devices aren't that portable, and therefore I have trouble when I am not at home. Does anyone have any general advice for me?

    Hello @James_Marigott

Welcome to the community, thanks for posting and I'm sorry to hear that this is a challenge for you, it must be very inconvenient.

Firstly, I hope you manage to get used to the site and if you have any questions then you are more than welcome to ask. I have moved your discussion over to our aids, adaptations and equipment category and altered the title so that other members know what the subject is. Please feel free to have a browse of the community for any related discussions that might be of use.

Have you considered contacting your local council to see if there are any aids you could get through them to help with this issue? It seems as though it would be helpful for you to have a device that was perhaps foldable and could be easily slipped away when not in use, making it easier to carry out and about.

Hi @James_Marigott - & welcome to the community. As Ross suggests, perhaps a foldable grabber might be helpful. Please see this example: https://www.completecareshop.co.uk/daily-living-aids/reaching-aids/sure-lock-folding-reacher?sku=Q33038
