A poem called Living with a disability
In many other counties, disabled people  frowned upon
As we show creative abilities shine through and what we can do.
As pursue our dreams
We don't deem anything to be possible
As we take small steps on the road to success
As we progress with every day that we work at our craft
We many have many drafts we learn our craft.
It is important we use our failures as our strength to grow in our passion.
After many months of working at our craft
We fashion fantastic  beautiful things through our craft and people that laughed at our craft are now instead of left behind
We are defined by our talent shining through
As we inspire each other to do fantastic things
As our fears displace in front of our eyes.
As we hear the birds tweet glorious sweet tunes to our ears.
We surprise ourselves with passion shining through
We are able to put smiles on other peoples faces and hearts through our craft all over the UK and the World.
We share purl of wisdom with each other which gives us the power to succeed in wonderful unbelievable things that will be filled in our lives with our talent.
We hope to be able to change people prosecutions and thoughts may be hard to change but by showing talent through craft will help with beginning to help slow the process of hoping to change people's prosecutions.
We need to remember we are all winners in our way and are on the way up as we join hands with each other and walk together in rain or shine campaigning for change which can only come if work together we can endeavour to bring change and improve our and others people's lives with disabilities for the better.

I love your internal rhymes and half rhymes, and other repeated sounds - they five a sense of inevitablity to the change that you can see is possible.

I love this, @Globster! I think your writing really captures how disabled people are underestimated in so many aspects of life, too. Please keep sharing your work here, when you can :)

have you thought about having them published. Back in the day i had two poetry books published, and i also had poems included in some poetry books. One of my poems was also used on a television show in the USA which i was shocked at. I was written to for permission to use it and I agreed, never got any royalties though.

I was lucky, i posted a couple of poems online then got approached about publishing a book. I then got asked to go to some schools and a couple of festivals. I have not written poetry for many years now due to my chronic pain, but i did write one after being asked the other month.

Keep at it and see if their is a local poetry club near you as they will guide you. I really enjoy reading your work

If you are shielding (or just don't feel ready, yet, to read aloud or your poems are meant to be read, or need an accessible venue) then "local" may not be best or even possible. There are online communities for all kinds of poets, with all kinds of needs (me, I'm a please get his, love this, and tell me the work I need to do person).

I started writing a book about ten years ago, and my wife has been telling me to finish it, but i need to get motivated. Not sure i can pick up from where i left off. I promised my wife that i will open the box and read through the chapters i wrote and see if i can carry on. Writng for me was a way gaining release. it is great therapy

This is what i wrote last year after not writing poetry for some years. I was asked as a favour to write it

    Alone In A Packed Room

I sit here in a crowded room feeling empty and alone,

Family, friends, strangers chat and laugh while I hibernate in my own secluded world,

I see mouths moving, hands waving, but the sounds are silent,

They smile at me; I falsely smile back while dying inside.

The family gathering is a nightmare I want to end,

The room is big but in my mind it is small,

There is laughing, lots of dancing, and people having fun,

In my room there is no happiness, no dancing, it is a dark and numb place.

I watch each sudden movement and worry people will glide towards me,

My invisible door between my room and their room is firmly shut,

I plead, I prey, I shout in my head, keep away, stay back, don’t break down my door,

All I want is to be left alone, no smiles, no pleasantries and no conversation.

I look at my watch hoping time will transform from seconds to hours,

The big hand on my watch is lazy and moving at a snail’s pace,

I want time to fly so I can escape and be free,

Time is frozen, shivers run down my spine, the room is getting darker.

The room may be packed but it is empty to me,

The packed room represents my past life,

A life of fun, happiness and a future

My empty room represents my present and future life.

I wish people understood my world,

You don’t have to be in an empty room to feel alone.
