I do know that many suppliers of this type of furniture do allow you to apply for VAT relief, so long as you explain your disability or long term health condition. This is usually done by filling out a 'VAT relief' form. If you'd like more details on what VAT relief is, Gov.uk has all the information.
Scope also has advice on paying for disability equipment and assistive technology, as well as how to look into grants for disability equipment.
