Who's liable for rent arrears?

Basically i was with my ex in council house my relationship broke down he left but he was main tenant i was sub tenant he left me in rent arrers so anyway i got took to court and was liable for paying rent on it after he left but then i left property whos liable for rent arrers

At a guess I would say that as you were the last tenant it might be your problem, you could perhaps speak to CAB ?

I'm not certain and you should get some expert advice
From personal experience if your name is on the tenancy or any bills if they are in joint names you are both liable and they try and recover debt from whoever they can contact -
